Killer Of Nigerian National Arrested In India, As Two Countries Struggle To Settle Conflict

Nigerians protest in Goa after the killing of Nigerian national last week

India - A 24-year-old man was arrested by Indian police in connection with the killing of a Nigerian national in the western state of Goa last week.

The man, identified as Suren Paul, a resident of Goa, has links with the drug mafia. Paul is suspected to be one of the six attackers involved in killing Obina Simione on Oct 31, 2013.

Local media reports said the Nigerian was hacked to death by a group of Goan drug traffickers, while five other Nigerians suffered stab wounds.

53 Nigerians were apprehended last week after around 200 of them staged a protest against the killing, chasing a police hearse carrying the corpse of the dead Nigerian and putting the body on the road. The demonstration blocked Goa's main highway for several hours

Subsequently, the police launched a crackdown on those staying illegally in the tourist state. It was announced on Monday that the Indian government will deport the Nigerians involved in minor crimes.

Interestingly, Nigerian High Commissioner to India has denied any knowledge of the fact of the arrest.

Looming conflict?

Reacting to the development, Nigerian officials yesterday issued a diplomatic note demanding to ensure safety of the country's nationals.

Speaking to international journalists, Nigeria's High Commissioner to India said the Nigerian community "feels aggrieved and offended for being targeted after the murder of a Nigerian in the Indian state of Goa."

In a statement to the Press Trust of India, the spokesman for the Commission, Tokunbo Falohun, lamented the loss of Nigeria's national in a 'cold-blooded murder'.

The Nigerian High Commission also urged to immediately arrest the culprits and make them compensate the relatives of the victim.

Falohun also noted that in Nigeria, there is a large number of Indians working, carrying out religious and other activities freely. Nigeria expects same conditions to be granted to Nigerians living in India, he said.

It is worthy noting that the before the official statement, consular attache Jacob Nwadadia warned of retaliation against Indians living in Nigeria if Goa did not stop "evicting Nigerians" from the state and failed to arrest the killers.

"There are only 50,000 Nigerians living in India, but there are over 1 million Indians living in Nigeria," he said. "Thousands of Indians living there will be thrown out on the streets if forcible eviction of Nigerians in Goa does not stop."

There would be no "repercussions" from the incident, Falohun maintained, if Indian authorities "justifiably" deal with thte consequences.

After the protest staged by angered Nigerian nationals, an Indian minister stirred a great deal of controversy by comparing Nigerians to "cancer": "The Nigerians are like cancer. We are worried what would be the image of Goa for the outside world when the images of Nigerians creating ruckus on the road are showed through television to the world," State Art and Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar, said.

However, India's foreign ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said in New Delhi, the country's capital, that the row could be settled "amicably". The investigation into the murder is in progress, he assured.

Same-sex marriage is a hotly debated topic in the U.S., with more and more states legalizing the unions. The YouTube hit is brought to us by the Fine Brothers, aka Benny and Rafi Fine, who regularly release "React" videos on their page. It starts out with kids ranging in age from 5 to 13 years old watching two same-sex proposal videos that have gone viral, "Spencer's Home Depot Marriage Proposal" and "Seattle+The Washington Bus+Jeanne+Alissa = wedding proposal." Watch as they slowly piece together what is happening in each video:

Eaglets’ll be turbo-charged against Mexico

Coach Manu Garba said yesterday  that the Golden Eaglets will be turbo-charged to defeat Mexico in Friday’s final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Abu Dhabi.

Garba last night saw his charges steam-roll their way to the final of the tournament, with a comprehensive 3-0 bashing of Sweden at the Rashid Stadium in Dubau and speaking at the post-match conference, a jubilant coach said he was in seventh heaven to see his troops damage their Scandinavians, who he praised for reaching this stage of the tournament.

While also hailing Mexico for reaching the final after suffering a 6-0 opening defeat against the Eaglets, Garba said he was confident that his troops would make it a double against the North American side, who have ousted Brazil and Uruguay to reach the summit.

“Sweden tried  but we showed our quality. I commend my players for achieving this victory and hope for a similar performance against Mexico, who I commend for getting to this stage.

They have done well and earned their place in the final but my team are turbo-charged for the final.

“We have come this far, playing well and it is time for God to crown our efforts with the Cup on Friday.”

Iron Man suit design for US military

A U.S. Special Operations soldier kicks in the door of a terrorist safe house.  The bad guys open fire with AK-47s, but the bullets just bounce off the soldier as he fires back.

It’s a scene that easily could have been included in any of the hugely successful “Iron Man” movies, but the man who runs U.S. Special Forces Command, Adm. William McRaven, wants to make it reality, and soon.

McRaven gave the green light to what the Pentagon officially calls a Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit, but everyone refers to it colloquially as “The Iron Man suit.”

McRaven recently spoke about losing a special operator in Afghanistan. "I would like that last operator to be the last one we ever lose," he said.

“If you think of that operator at the breech point of that door, and he’s got to open that door, not knowing what’s on the other side, he’s got to be in position to be protected as soon as that door opens.”

Many of the technologies that could be incorporated into McRaven’s idea of an Iron Man suit already exist. “But they still exist separately. So they are taking them all and they are putting them together,” said former Navy SEAL Chris Heben.

For example, Raytheon and the military have been working for two years on an exoskeleton that allows a soldier to lift 17 times the weight he normally could.

A company named Springactive has devices that attach to a soldier’s boots that converts every step the soldier takes into electricity that could power his equipment.

Even Adidas, one of the world’s top sports equipment companies, uses a technology for top soccer teams that could be easily adapted for teams of Special Operators.

“I can see exactly what all my athletes on the field are doing," Adidas project manager Matt Hymers said.

On the battlefield, each soldier would carry on his back a small device about the size of a deck of cards that measures heart rate, perspiration, speed, distance and has a GPS in it to pinpoint his location and the location of his fellow troops. And the commander could monitor the whole team in real time.

Heben said if everything works out, TALOS will “take a group of guys that are extremely high functioning on the battlefield and make them completely unstoppable.”
