Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel trolled after he posts fake Ruben Neves quote to Instagram

JOHN OBI MIKEL was trolled  after he posted a fake Ruben Neves quote to Instagram.

A Chelsea fan account on Twitter called @ThatMunichNight made up a quote six months ago from the Wolves midfielder.

A post shared by Mikel Obi (@mikel_john_obi) on
The fake Neves quote read: "At Porto all midfielders were given DVDs of Mikel to take home and study every day.

"We used to call him the 'professor of football.'"

Believing in-demand midfielder Neves had actually studied his defensive playing style along with the rest of his ex-Porto team-mates, Mikel said: “I am honoured.”

And after the prank eventually worked, the Blues fan account revealed others also fell for the troll and shared it as a genuine quote.

He tweeted: “The funniest part about this is the fact the accounts I expected to blindly copy and present it as legit news did the exact same thing.”

Mikel lifted three Premier League titles and also won the Champions League at Stamford Bridge during his 11-years as a Blue.

VIDEO: Keep drug dealers, human traffickers out of our country, South African minister tells Nigeria

Naledi Pandor, South African minister of foreign affairs has called on the Nigerian government to keep citizens who are into drug peddling, human trafficking and other vices from coming into her country.

Pandor said this in an interview with South African TV station, eNCA.

She said that South Africa needed the help of the Federal Government of Nigeria to curb crimes in their country, as she said that South Africans believe that Nigerians were into drug peddling, human trafficking and other vices that hurt their nation.

Pandor said, “Help us address the belief and the reality that our people have that there are many persons from Nigeria, who are dealing in drugs in our country, who are harming our young people by making drugs easily available to them.

“The belief that Nigerian nationals are involved in human trafficking and other abusive practices. This kind of assistance in ensuring that such people don’t come to our country would be of great assistance to our nation.”

Nigerians and other foreign nationals have been the target of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, since last week after a taxi driver was killed by an alleged drug dealer in Pretoria.

South Africa has shut its embassies in Nigeria over concerns of reprisal attacks.

Xenophobia: South Africa proposes cultural exchange programme with Nigerian youth groups

Bobby Moroe, Acting High Commissioner of South Africa to Nigeria, on Wednesday in Abuja, held a meeting with some Nigerian youth groups and proposed cultural exchange programmes between the two countries.

The meeting was organised by the high commission in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Global Peace Initiative (GPI) and Committee of Youth on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS) and National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS).

While briefing the media on outcome of closed door meeting with NANS, NYCN and CYMS, Mr Moroe said that South African government would partner Nigeria to implement an exchange programme with the youths.

The high commissioner said that the initiative provides that Nigerian youths and students leaders travel to South Africa on cultural exchange and dialogue with their counterparts, as a way forward to the present situation.

According to him, this is to encourage exchange of ideas and views to promote relations between the two countries from the prism of youth leaders and come up with progressive recommendations.

Mr Moroe said: “The NYCN, GPI and CYMS have declared their readiness to do this and we are making arrangement to achieve the desired goals.

“Based on the discussion that we had, it is important for us to chat the cause for unity between Nigerians and South Africans at this period, because we share historical values.

“There is a need for us to cultivate the culture of tolerance and co-existence between the people of South Africa and people of Nigeria.

“It is important that we take advantage of the dialogue that we have had today to rebuild the much needed social engagement.

“It is important to educate the youth of South Africa and Nigeria to understand the history of cordiality shared between both countries and by such means there can be appreciation”.

Also speaking, Bala Shagari, President of NYCN, said the meeting was important for both countries to tow that path of peace, rather than looting of shops and business properties.

‘We believe that it is important that we engage in discussion with the South African people to proffer solutions to xenophobic attacks, rather than escalating the problem which can bring shame to the continent.

“As a result of our discussion we have agreed that we are going to South Africa to hear from them directly and to also get to the root cause of the problem and bring an end to it,” Shagari said.

He said that solution to the crisis should not just be left for governments of both countries alone, but urged youths to key into platforms for engagement in discussions to chat way forward.

Also, the Director General of CYMS, Obinna Nwaka, promised to produce comprehensive reports from the programme and submitted to governments of both countries.

“This issue about xenophobic attack is not just for governments alone, it is the youth, who can really proffer solution to it and they should not be left behind.

He, however, appealed to Nigerians to be patient, calm and remain peaceful in their dealings, to promote amicable resolution of the dispute.

Newsmen report that the date and duration of the proposed programme is yet to be decided by the high commission and the youth based organisations.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), has opposed the proposed cultural exchange programme between Nigeria and South African youths to address xenophobic attacks on Nigeria and promote unity between the two countries.

The President of NANS, Danielson Akpan, said this shortly after a news briefing by the Acting High Commissioner of South Africa to Nigeria.

Akpan said the proposed exchange programme by the South African High Commission and the federal government for youths and students’ body would not work in view of the prevailing situation in South Africa.

”We do not need the proposed exchange programme; how do you carry out exchange programme in a place where you are not safe?

“Our members who are schooling in South Africa have been calling us that they want to come back home.”

He said attacks by South Africans on Nigerians and other nationals were unjustifiable and condemnable.

MTN offices close shop as Nigerians protest xenophobic attacks

The MTN Nigeria outlet in Ikeja, Lagos has been shut after some Nigerians took to the streets to protest xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

This comes after reports on violence against Nigerians living in South Africa went viral.

Earlier on Thursday, the telecommunications company issued a statement condemning xenophobic attacks.

“MTN Nigeria strongly condemns hate, prejudice and xenophobia and reiterate our unequivocal condemnation of all violence,” the statement read.

“We seek to connect people, bring people together and provide a platform for everyone’s voice to be heard. We are against all forms of bigotry and discrimination; they should have no place in society.

“Everyone has the right to a world where their rights and freedoms are respected — the right to live and earn a living, freely, safely and protected by the law.”

At the time of filing this report, there were unconfirmed reports on an MTN office in Uyo.

Newsmen have reached out to the company for confirmation.

Branches of Standard Chartered Bank, another South African business operating in Nigeria, had signs condemning xenophobic attacks.

In July, the telecommunications company directed its staff to stay away from its offices after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) threatened to picket its outlets.

Federal government begins clampdown on roadside cooking gas retailers

The Federal Government has begun clampdown on illegal gas plants and roadside retailers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly known as cooking gas, an official said.

Mr Bassey Nkanga, DPR’s Operations Controller, Port Harcourt Zone, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Monday on the sideline of the department’s ongoing surveillance on gas plants in Port Harcourt.

NAN reports that government had in May stopped customers’ ownership of cylinders as well as barred the refilling of gas cylinders by the roadsides and other unauthorized places.

The policy, the government said, would require that the ownership of LPG cylinders rest solely with the dealers and distributors.

According to Nkanga, the department had held several meetings with operators of gas plants and LPG retailers to introduce them to standard minimum requirements acceptable in the industry.

“The new model by government; decanting (transferring from one gas cylinder to another) is not allowed, trans-filling is also not allowed.

“That is why we are encouraging, enlightening, and engaging them (retailers) to adopt the new methodologies, whereby, somebody would have to drop (empty cylinder) and pick another one with gas.

“The era of decanting, transcanting and transferring from one cylinder to the other is no longer going to be allowed

“So, we have been talking to them (retailers) and they even formed a union to register for the Category D licence. A lot of them have turned up, and so many are yet to turn up,” he said.

Nkanga further said that government was also clamping down on operators of illegal gas plants; those operating without valid licence and others operating within residential areas.

He said most of the outlets lacked basic and standard minimum requirements like fire extinguishers and detectors, water sprinkler, temperature gauge, pressure and volume, among others.

The department, he said, had brought in competent personnel to oversee its gas division and ensure that operators function within stipulated guidelines and regulations.

“We also had several meetings with various stakeholders in the gas sector. We told them those operating without licence will not be allowed to operate again.

“We even gave them two months within which they have to renew their licences; and we have decided to pull the full weight of the law on those operating without valid licences.

“There is a fine for those operating without valid licence; and those that are illegal, we will hand over to the security agencies. It is illegal to operate without licence.

“This exercise has just started on the gas facilities, and it would be continued. We have requirement and you must meet the requirement before you are allowed to set up a gas plant,” he said.
